RELATED: Every God Of War Game, Ranked

Unlike its predecessor, God of War Ragnarok allows players to visit all nine realms, as well as Yggdrasil, which is sometimes referred to as the realm between realms and is widely regarded as having been at the very center of the Norse cosmos. Sadly, players won’t have access to every realm right away, though will have gotten a taste of all nine of them by the time they have completed the game’s main story.

How to Unlock Every Realm in God of War Ragnarok

Midgard

Midgard is the main location for much of God of War Ragnarok’s first chapter and is one of the largest areas in the game. Not all of it will be available right away though, with players unlocking new areas as they make their way through the main story.

Svartalfheim

Players will visit Svartalfheim during The Quest for Tyr, which is the second chapter of God of War Ragnarok. As with Midgard, not all of the realm will be accessible right away, with players needing to complete more chapters in order to fully explore it.

Niflheim

Upon completing Chapter 3 of God of War Ragnarok, players will receive world seeds for Niflheim and Alfheim. Upon their first visit to the former, players will only have access to the Raven Tree area, but they’ll be able to explore much more of the realm after completing the main story.

Alfheim

Players will visit Alfheim during Groa’s Secret, which is the fourth chapter of God of War Ragnarok. Things have changed quite a bit from the previous game though, with the Light Elves having made some pretty big changes since Kratos and Atreus helped them to regain control of the light.

Jötunheim

God of War Ragnarok’s fifth chapter sees Atreus visiting Jötunheim in his sleep, though unlocking the realm completely requires players to complete the main story and get the Realm Seed for Jötunheim from Ratatoskr.

Vanaheim

Once Atreus and Kratos have reunited and teamed up to take on the mysterious Valkyrie, Kratos will make his way to Vanaheim with an old friend as part of Chapter 6 of God of War Ragnarok.

Asgard

Players will visit Asgard during Chapter 7 of God of War Ragnarok. However, unlike all of the other realms in God of War Ragnarok, players will not be able to explore Asgard freely after completing the main story.

Muspelheim

Upon returning from Asgard, players will make their way to Muspelheim in the eighth chapter of God of War Ragnarok. They’ll also be able to unlock The Crucible area by finding the two halves of the Muspelheim Realm Seed, which are in the Modvitnir’s Rig and Dragon Beach areas of Svartalfheim respectively. Though players will be able to find the first part as early as Chapter 2, they’ll need to have gotten their hands on the Draupnir Spear in order to reach the one on Dragon Beach.

Helheim

Players will return to Helheim during Chapter 11 of God of War Ragnarok, which is fittingly titled Unleashing Hel. As with most of the other realms in God of War Ragnarok, more of the realm becomes available upon completing the game’s main story.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
