While wearing the Jetpack in San Andreas, players are able to travel over every type of terrain without much slowdown and can use the high-tech gadget to take CJ to all kinds of hard-to-reach places. Its speed and precision make it an excellent choice of vehicle for those who are gathering up the game’s many collectibles, while the ability to fire a single-handed weapon while wearing it can also make capturing gang territory a lot easier as well.
How to Unlock the Jetpack in GTA: San Andreas
Players will first gain access to the Jetpack as part of the “Black Project” mission, which is handed out by The Truth from the Verdant Meadows airstrip once players have completed Toreno’s “Stowaway” quest. The old man will task CJ with breaking into a bunker at the highly secretive military base, Area 69, where he’ll find the Jetpack hidden down in an underground lab. Players will then need to escape from the base as quickly as possible, as if they hang around for too long the military will begin to fire rockets that will finish CJ off pretty quickly.
Stealing the Jetpack and then returning it to The Truth at the airstrip will unlock the “Green Goo” mission, in which players will need to use the Jetpack to steal some of the eponymous goo from inside a crate on a heavily-guarded train. It’s best to fly over to the roof of the nearby station and take out all of the guards as the train passes before boarding it, as although it is possible to shoot at the guards while hovering alongside the moving train, it can be difficult to do so accurately due to the speed at which it’s traveling.
After receiving the goo from CJ, The Truth will drive off in the Mothership, leaving the Jetpack behind at the airstrip. From here on out, the Jetpack will spawn next to the wooden structure with the save point and the flight school inside, allowing players to pick it up whenever they like. For those who want to get their hands on the Jetpack straight away, it’s actually possible to spawn one in using one of the many cheat codes in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, although doing so will lock trophies/achievements.
How to Control the Jetpack in GTA: San Andreas
Unlike other vehicles in San Andreas, players simply need to walk into the Jetpack to put it on, though will still need to use the regular exit vehicle button when they want to start a mission or go inside a building. The Jetpack also controls very differently from regular vehicles, particularly when it comes to acceleration and thrust. Rather than the usual accelerate button (which will now fire CJ’s weapon), players will instead need to use the handbrake button in order to fly vertically and the opposite shoulder button to descend. It’s possible to fly to the left or right by pressing the corresponding face button, though the majority of horizontal movement is typically still handled with the left analog stick.
