Updating Apple Maps on iPad for New Features
Like Apple’s other built-in apps, such as Safari, Notes, and Mail, Maps is updated automatically when a new operating system version is released. So with iPadOS 15, for example, you’ll receive the updated Maps app with its new features when you upgrade your iPad to the newest system version.
Go to Settings > General > Software Update to see if your iPad is up to date or if an iPadOS update is available.
Updating Apple Maps on iPad for Solving Problems
If you’re having problems with your current version of Maps, such as issues with finding your location or getting incorrect information, you might be wondering if you can update the app manually.
There is no handy button to update Maps manually, but there are several things you can check to try to solve problems. Here they are in order.
Make sure you have Location Services enabled for the Maps app on your iPad. Open Settings and go to Privacy> Location Services. Select Maps and confirm you have While Using the App or Widgets checked. Confirm that you have Wi-Fi or Cellular Data turned on and that you’re connected. Also in Settings, select Wi-Fi or Cellular Data per your iPad model and connection. Make sure the toggle is turned on and you are connected. Double-check that your time zone and time and date settings are correct. In Settings, go to General > Date & Time to view your current settings. Make any necessary changes or enable Set Automatically for your iPad to handle it. If everything above is correct and you’re still having trouble, restart the Maps app: force-close the app and reopen it. Launch the App Switcher and swipe up on the app to close it. Then navigate to Maps on your iPad and open it again. If force closing the app doesn’t work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the app using a fresh download from the App Store. This could solve a multitude of problems that prevent the app from working properly. The final action you can take if nothing resolves your Maps trouble is to restart your iPad. Many times, a simple reboot of a device can fix a small issue.
If it’s new Maps features you want, consider updating your iPadOS version. But if it’s trouble you’re having with Apple Maps, hopefully updating a setting or two fixes the problem.
