How to Set Up Collab
What’s a collab? Collab is an app that allows you to combine and synchronize up to three videos from up to three different people. You can upload all three videos yourself to make your own Collab post, or you can use a video from someone else and then add your own video (or videos) to it.
Download the Collab app from the App Store. Open the app and tap Sign in with Apple. Confirm your age using the numbered menu at the bottom of the screen, then use Face ID or enter your Apple ID to sign in. Enter a username, Display Name and Bio in the given fields to complete the account setup process. You can also tap the profile picture icon to upload a photo.
How to Create Your Own Collab Video
Follow these instructions to create and post your own set of three synced videos.
Tap the plus sign (+) icon in the bottom menu. Note If this is your first time creating a video, you will have to allow the app to access your camera and microphone. Tap OK to proceed. Tap Continue at the bottom of the screen. Tap the record button in the bottom center to start a countdown and begin recording your first video. Tap the stop button to stop recording. You can film up to one minute of video footage. Tip Tap and hold the metronome (128) button to increase or decrease the timing of the beat. You need to wear headphones to hear it. Use the trimming tool at the bottom of the screen to select the clip to include in your video, up to a maximum of 15 seconds. Tap the arrow button in the top right. Your video will be duplicated to be shown in each of the three spaces on the next tab. To film another video to take the place of one of the three spots, tap the plus sign (+) button and select 1, 2 or 3. Tap the record button to record your second video and tap the stop button to stop recording. Tap the <> button in the top left corner of the video you just recorded to align the clip. Tap < and > on either side of the video to align the sound of your second video with the sound of your first one. Once aligned, tap Save. Repeat steps 6 through 11 to film and align your third and final video clip. Tip You can redo a clip by tapping the plus sign (+) icon and selecting the space (1, 2 or 3) that you want to re-record over. Tap Next. Tap Choose Song to add the song name and artist to your video. You can search for a popular song or tap the plus sign (+) beside the search field to add a Title and Artist manually. Tap Post. Note Once you post your video, it will be available for others to use in their own collabs. If you delete one of your clips, it will no longer appear in anybody else’s collabs. Your newly published Collab video will appear on your profile and in the home feed. Tip To delete a Collab video you previously posted, tap the three horizontal dots in the top right corner of it and select Delete.
How to Create a Collab Video With Someone Else
Find videos from other people by scrolling through your home feed or by tapping the magnifying glass icon in the bottom menu to search for videos with specific songs and artists.
Tap the plus sign (+) icon in the bottom right of someone else’s Collab video. Tap the plus sign (+) icon at the bottom of the screen. Tap 1, 2 or 3 to select the video space you want and then select Next. Tap the record button to record your second video and tap the stop button to stop recording. Note Keep in mind the length of your clip must match the length of the original poster’s video. Tap the <> button in the top left corner of the video you just recorded to align the clip. Optionally repeat steps 2 through 5 if you want to add another video, then tap Next. Optionally tap the song name and artist to edit or change it, then tap Post.
