Called Math Solver, this tool allows you to solve mathematical problems in Microsoft Edge without leaving the tab. We’re going to take a look at how to use Math Solver.
What Is Microsoft Edge’s Math Solver?
Developed by Microsoft, Math Solver is a tool built into the Edge browser that recognizes mathematical problems from an image, and solves them for you.
Math Solver has existed as a separate tool for years, and was a part of Windows. It is also available as an Android, iOS, and web app. However, Microsoft integrated Math Solver right into Edge with the 91 update, so you don’t have to switch windows.
Moreover, Bing displays this handy tool in search results. When you search mathematical terms such as “quadratic equation”, Math Solver appears at the top of the results. Here you can even draw a question using a virtual pen.
The Math Solver website also gives you quizzes, so you can practice your math skills. Teachers can also visit the popular problems page to see what types of questions are most difficult for students.
What Types of Questions Can You Solve?
Math Solver uses Artificial Intelligence to recognize different questions. From factorization to calculus, you can solve various types of questions.
Here are some types of questions you can ask:
Pre-Algebra: LCM, GCF, Mixed Fractions, Radicals, Exponents Algebra: Inequalities, Systems of equations, Matrices, Linear and Quadratic Equations, etc. Statistics: Mean, Mode Trigonometry: Equations, Graphs Calculus: Derivatives, Limits, and Integrals
Using Math Solver in Microsoft Edge
If you’re looking to use Math Solver, you can do so directly inside the Edge browser.
Adding Math Solver to the Edge Toolbar
You can access Math Solver from More > Tools > Math Solver. But if you plan to use Math Solver frequently, it’s a good idea to add it to your Edge toolbar. By doing so, you can access it quickly and solve problems in no time.
Click on the More icon in the top-right corner of the Edge window. From the menu, select Settings. In the appearance section, find the Show Math Solver Button option. Toggle on the Math Solver button. Now, you’ll see an icon for Math Solver in the toolbar.
Clicking the Math Solver icon will open a pane on the right side of the Edge window.
Highlighting the Screen to Solve Math Problems
Math Solver’s key feature is the use of AI to recognize mathematical problems. To solve the problems, by highlighting the screen, follow the below steps.
Open the image or document containing the question in Edge. Click on Select Math problem in the Math Solver pane. Once you do so, Edge grays out the whole window, giving you a cursor to highlight the question. Drag and resize the selection box around the question. Make sure to highlight the entire problem and avoid any extra text in the selected region. Click on Solve.
Once you’ve chosen the option, Math Solver will solve your equation and present the result within seconds.
Typing Questions in Math Solver
It’s sometimes easier for you to type the question rather than taking a picture, uploading it to your computer, and then highlighting it. In this case, you can use Math Solver’s digital keyboard to input almost any type of problem.
For using the digital keyboard, click on Type Math Problem. This powerful keyboard supports several functions and has a separate tab for each type of question.
Tab one has keys for numbers and basic operations. Tab two is for arithmetic. It allows you to input logarithms, fractions, radicals, and inequalities. Tab three contains trigonometric functions like sin, cos, and arc-sin, etc. You can find buttons for typing calculus problems like limits, derivations, and integrals. Tab four is for statistics and contains operations like mean, mode, LCM, GCF, and combinations. Next, you have a tab to input Matrices. Tab five has alphabetic keys for variables.
Don’t want to use the digital keyboard? You can always type using your computer’s keyboard. Although your keyboard can enter basic problems, it is probably impossible to type every question through it.
Viewing Solution
After solving the question, the Math Solver app gives a step-by-step solution of the question. With each step, there’s a brief explanation too, helping you grasp the concepts better.
Where there are multiple ways to solve a problem, Math Solver shows all methods and their solutions. This feature helps you understand the questions and enables you to solve similar ones.
Below the solution steps, Math Solver displays a graph for equations, so you can see the relationship between variables.
Related Educational Videos
Math Solver also provides a couple of learning videos related to the question.
In the Math pane, you’ll find these videos under the heading of Recommended Videos. Most of these videos are of popular educational websites like Khan Academy. Clicking on these links will open a new tab for playing videos.
The Show More Learning Content button under the videos will direct you to the Math Solver website. Here you’ll find more videos, related concepts, worksheets, and similar problems. With so much content available for learning, even math becomes easier.
Sharing Solution
Instead of solving a problem from scratch again, you can share the solution with your classmates directly from the Math Solver. By doing so, you can help your friends understand complex problems without spending too much time. Win-win, isn’t it?
To share the solution, scroll to the end of the pane and copy the link. Your classmates will see the solution on the Math Solver website, after clicking the link you shared.
