In this guide, we’ll show you how to use the Multi-Account Containers add-on, so you can make the most out of its features.
What Firefox Multi-Account Containers Can Do for You
First and foremost, the extension separates your browsing activity. If you use the same Firefox account both for work and personal browsing, you can keep these two separated. For example, you can hide your work-related container once you get home or when your shift is over.
The add-on also allows you to log in to different accounts on the same website without having to use private windows or different browsers. For example, if you have a personal email account and a work email account, you can open them at the same time using different containers.
Multi-Account Containers prevents tracking activity without logging out of websites while you browse. If you open a website in a container, it can’t track your browsing activity while using another container.
When using the add-on, it will open a website within the same container every time. This will stop any browsing mistakes such as visiting an online shop in your finance-related container. It can also help you avoid security attacks, by restricting any harmful activity to its container.

That’s it. You don’t have to restart Firefox, the add-on is ready to use.
How to Use and Manage Firefox’s Multi-Account Containers
After you install Firefox Multi-Account Containers, its icon will appear on your toolbar. The add-on’s menu contains 4 categories added by default: Work, Banking, Personal, and Shopping.
How to Add New Categories
You can add a new category and customize it as you want. Here is how you can do it:
Open the add-on menu. Click the plus button. Add a name, set its color, and select an icon. Once you’re done, click OK.
To add a site to a container, click the add-on icon and select Always open this site in. Then, choose one of your containers.
How to Hide Containers
If your work involves doing a lot of research, you can easily end up with more than 15-20 tabs opened at the same time and mix them with other tabs such as email, Facebook, or Spotify. To hide all container tabs, click the arrow next to the container. Then, select Hide this container.
How to Manage Tabs
If you want to open a new tab using a specific container, select the container and click Open new tab in.
Firefox Multi-Account Container also allows you to sort your tabs. Click the add-on icon and select Sort Tabs by Container. This will put the same type of tabs next to each other in your browser window. So if you have mixed Shopping with Work tabs, you can easily organize them.
If you want to open tabs from a certain container to a new window, open the container and click Move tabs to a new window.
How to Delete a Container
If you want to delete a container you no longer need, open the add-on menu and select Manage containers. Then, select the container you want to remove and click Delete This Container.
